What exactly is a Cat Foster?

There are many pet owners, unfortunately, who do not spay or neuter their pets. As a result, millions of healthy, beautiful dogs and cats end up being euthanized at shelters every year in the United States. Cats, in particular, almost never make it out when they are brought to a shelter.

As foster, I temporarily provide a loving home for felines (which have usually have been rescued from being put to sleep at local shelters) until they can find a permanent home. Our family really enjoys helping these sweet souls and we've found fostering to be a great way for kids to learn responsibility and compassion from an early age.

AAU, which operates totally on donations from caring people and businesses, saves as many animals as they can, but they can't save any without donations and foster homes to take care of the animals until they are chosen by their forever families. Besides providing these newly saved cats and kittens with a safe and nurturing environment, a foster addresses any health or behavioral issues (with help and guidance from AAU and their networks of vets) in order to help them become wonderful additions to any family. If you can't bring a new animal into your home permanently, please foster. If you can't foster, please donate. If you can't donate, please pray and spread the word about AAU and other reputable rescue groups.

It is bittersweet when one of my fosters finds her family. Of course it's a sad occasion to say goodbye, but also a happy one because it means AAU can save another cat or kitten that does not deserve to die young. I've also found it incredibly rewarding to watch a family fall in love with its new pet and vice versa! Fostering saves lives and is fun too:) Email me for more info if fostering is something you might like to do too! It does not require a lot of money or time, just love:)

I will keep this page updated with my current fosters. If you see one you'd like to meet, please feel free to ask questions. My email is findafelinefriend@yahoo.com. Check out the Blog Archive or Helpful Information pages to see if specific information you need on the process of bringing home an AAU cat is addressed. Also, if you know anyone who is looking to add a kitty to the family, please send them a link to this blog.

Thanks so much for your help and for spreading the word. I think it was St. Paul who said "God cannot be outdone in generosity!" I've found that to be amazingly true.
